William Swearengen (Swearingen) died at the residence of his son, John T. Swearingen in Headrick, Iowa, Feb 19 of heart disease. He was born in Butler County, Ohio March 26, 1814. At the age of 9 years his parents moved to this county and settled near Yountsville where he grew to manhood. On Dec 3, 1840 he married Miss Margaret E. Hall and lived four miles west of Yountsville. In 1868 he moved to Keokuk County, Iowa, and settled on a farm one mile from Manhattan where he resided until the death of his wife in 1884; since then he has lived with his children. Five sons and two daughters survive JM and LH Swearingen of Manhattan; John of Hedrick; Marion of Chicago; Dr. AW of Bonne Terre, Mo; Mrs. EH Carroll of Ligomey, Iowa and Mrs. Laura D. Carroll of Hartford City, Indiana. - kbz
